Don't scratch the itch!

Most people have some negative beliefs about themselves that they have carried internally from childhood.  No matter how much you work at it they tend to be the ones that crop up when you are in a crisis, sick or tired.  I think it’s useful to think of it like a mosquito bite.  It doesn’t help when you scratch it.  It makes it worse.  If you have a negative belief and you try to argue with it in your head, it will only get worse.  The way out of oppression….internally or within our culture is love.  Getting angry and arguing gives attention to those thoughts and people that are being oppressive.  Focus on loving yourself and do something that helps you to be present in the moment.  After a while the thought won’t have as much energy or be as ‘itchy’ and compelling.
