So…..we’ve probably all had the experience of opening a bottle of coke and realizing that it had been shaken prior to opening it and then it sprays all over the place!!! lol Well…..it’s kind of the same thing with our feelings. It’s important to learn the skills of venting feelings appropriately so that we don’t stuff them, or spew them everywhere. It’s like opening the bottle cap just a smidge to let out some of the gas before taking the lid off entirely! No amount of therapy will get you to a point where you don’t have feelings as a human being. We are all powerful and vulnerable at the same time for our entire lives. Feelings are not the problem. What you do with your feelings is what matters. Now that doesn’t mean you have to cry and vent all the time. Exercise is actually a great way to process the energy around your feelings. So is talking, or doing art, or journaling, or creating music. It’s just important to recognize your feelings and find ways to think about them, and deal with them that are appropriate. Sometimes just doing a reality check around our feelings can shift them when we see that we are magnifying or minimizing a problem. The important thing is to remember to check in with yourself and not avoid dealing with life……or you’ll end up imploding or exploding and spewing all over the place!!!
