What's the weather like in your life?

7/2/2014

If you were to watch the weather conditions on a sitcom or daytime drama, the chances that it would be inclement weather are rare.  We get brainwashed by entertainment media into thinking that if it isn’t sunny out all the time then we should be unhappy.  It’s not realistic.  In Buddhist philosophy, happiness is when expectations meet with reality.  I think our lives are more like the weather.  If we EXPECT that there will be good days and bad days and stressful days as well as calm ones then we will be happier.  If we expect the weather that is typical for each season and dress appropriately, we will be happier.  It’s cold in the winter.  It’s hot in the summer.  Find things to do that help you to enjoy that weather and then dress appropriately for it.  If there are times that it tends to be busier in your life due to birthdays or seasonal celebrations, then anticipate them and make the best of it.  If there are quieter ‘seasons’ then sink into the quietness and enjoy that.  If there are dates that you anticipate more grief around the loss of a loved one, then plan ahead for how you will cope so you have what you need in place if/when the grief surfaces.  If we anticipate and accept that our lives will have a variety of types of days, and we don’t think that it is ‘abnormal’, then we won’t get as stressed out about having to deal with them when they arrive.

"Circle"

All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown
The moon rolls through the nighttime, till the daybreak comes around
All my life's a circle but I can't tell you why
The season's spinnin' round again the years keep rollin' by

It seems like I've been here before, I can't remember when
But I got this funny feelin' that I'll be back once again
There's no straight lines make up my life and all my roads have bends
There's no clear-cut beginnings and so far no dead-ends

I found you a thousand times I guess you've done the same
But then we lose each other it's just like a children's game
But as I see you here again, a thought runs through my mind
Our love is like a circle, let's go 'round one more time

All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown
The moon rolls through the nighttime, till the daybreak comes around
All my life's a circle but I can't tell you why
The season's spinnin' round again, the years keep rollin' by

Oh all my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown
The moon rolls throught the nighttime till the daybreak comes around
All my life's a circle but I can't tell you why
The season's spinnin' round again, the years keep rollin' by

Oh all my life's a circle there's sunrise and sundown
The moon rolls throught the nighttime
