Services
Lee provides individual, couple and family therapy for individuals dealing with crisis, transition or wanting to make a change in their relationship or life. We are all somewhere on the spectrum between health and dysfunction (read more about this here). Lee does not work from a traditional medical model paradigm of patient/expert, but rather believes that for therapy to be effective, we need to collaborate. She says, "It is my privilege to be invited into your personal process while you change what isn't working in your life. Our job together is to create a good connection so that we can work as a team on your behalf. You provide information about what is going on internally and share what you're noticing about what's working and what's not working in your life. As a therapist, it is my responsibility to provide a safe, non-judgemental place where we agree to focus on your life. Because I am outside of your situation, I am able to provide information, ask questions, notice patterns, provide resources, and suggest potential solutions. Together we are able to each offer our different perspectives regarding possible solutions to what you would like to change in your life."
Lee believes that therapy should be an empowering process. Ultimately, we only have control of ourselves. We can't control others, though they can certainly trigger us. It is helpful to learn about these triggers so that we can focus on what we have control of, which is ourselves. People are a lot like icebergs where only 15% of what's going on is in our conscious mind while 85% is "below the surface" and is made up of the unconscious belief systems that were formed in our childhood experiences. It is helpful to get to know those belief systems so that we can create change. This does not mean that we have to spend a lengthy amount of time researching the past unless, of course, there is unresolved trauma that needs to be processed. (See EMDR.)
We all have our gifts and our unique ways that will make us happy in order to fit into the world. We cannot control the awful things that happen in our lives and in our world. We can only work on developing resilience and the skills necessary to prevent patterns of dysfunction.
Lee's goal is to support you in your process of self-empowerment so that you can lead a better, happier life.
